The Recording Club at The Studio Portland offers students practical experience recording and mixing in an acoustically tuned environment that allows for accurate production techniques. This professional development program is for adults of all ages seeking vocational-style training and experience working on real projects in a commercial recording studio. This apprenticeship-style experience is great for anyone who isn't sure about an investment in a 4-year college track, but wants to gain skills and confidence to work in a commercial studio. OR even those who graduated from college but still need hands-on experience. Students who have taken this course but want to deepen their mastery and gain more studio hours may take multiple sessions. Return students will be given more leadership roles and responsibilities, and will have documented completion of multiple levels, and the opportunity to "test out" to qualify to work independently as an engineer at our studio.
At the end of this program, students will receive a certificate of proficiency from The Recording Club, demonstrating their experience with:
Ear Training and Acoustics
Analog Recording Console Management (API 2448)
Patch Bay Management with Analog Hardware Processing
Full Band Tracking & Pre-Production
Drum Editing & Tempo Mapping
Amp Simulation & In The Box Processing
Pianos / Keys
Horns & Woodwinds
Sound Design Basics
Sound Replacement and Sample Design
Virtual Instrument Production
Full Band Setup
Full Band Tracking
Mixing (EQ, Compression, Reverb, Delay & Effects)
Classes are scheduled Mondays and Tuesdays 10 AM - 4 PM. If this does not work with your schedule, flexible/custom scheduling options are available so work commitments, other classes, or parenting schedules should not be an obstacle! Course "semester" begins Monday September 11, 2023.
All bookings are final and non-refundable. If you are unable to attend for unforeseen reasons, The Recording Club will extend credit for a future program or service of the same value.
